ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - An execution date has been set for a man convicted of killing a woman and her two children. Mark Christeson is set to die on January 31st for the 1998 murders in the central Missouri town of Vichy. Christeson raped a 38-year-old woman, suffocated her 12-year-old daughter and stabbed her 9-year-old son and dumped him into a pond to drown.

Five legal groups have an appeal pending with the 8th US CIrcuit Court of appeals in St. Louis. The US Supreme Court intervened hours before he was set to die in 2014 saying he deserved the chance to argue his court-appointed attorneys were ineffective.
