Arkansas man struck, killed by car in Granite City

EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI) – A construction worker from Arkansas died late Thursday night after being struck by a car in Granite City, Illinois.

According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office, the accident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Illinois Route 3 and West Chain of Rocks Road.

Witnesses told investigators that Willie Shores was tossed out of the Champion Sports Bar and Grill and had turned back to face the bar while stepping into oncoming traffic. He was hit by a 2014 Ford Escape traveling southbound on Route 3.

Shores, 44, was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m. The coroner’s office ruled he died as a result of head and chest trauma. Routine toxicology and drug tests will be performed at a later date.

Funeral arrangements for Shores are still pending.
