MetroLink security officer shot in Wellston

WELLSTON, MO (KTVI) - A MetroLink security officer was shot by a light rail rider Thursday afternoon. The officer was shot in the shoulder by the suspect.  Police returned fire and hit the suspect.

The shooting happened at the MetroLink station in the 6400 block of Plymouth. A call for an, "Officer in need of aid" went out over police radio at around 2 p.m.

This appears to be over an unpaid train ticket.  Police say that Metro security approached a rider about an unpaid fair. The rider, a teen or man in his early 20s, and the officer got into an argument. The rider then pulled a gun and shot the officer in the shoulder. The officer was not seriously injured in the shooting.

St. Louis County Police responded to the shooting. They shot the suspect in the buttocks. Both the suspect and the officer were seen being taken away from the scene in ambulances.

 

 

The officer was treated at a local hospital and eventually released. The wounded suspect was taken into surgery. As of Thursday evening, police have not updated his condition.
