Man charged in MetroLink station shooting
CLAYTON, MO (KTVI) – The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged a 22-year-old man Friday for allegedly shooting a MetroLink security guard at the Wellston station.
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. at the MetroLink station, located in the 6400 block of Plymouth.
According to court documents, the security guard approached Mychael Garrett over an unpaid fare. Garrett allegedly pulled out a .380 pistol and shot the guard in the shoulder.
Two St. Louis County police officers, who were on the MetroLink train that Garrett was attempting to board, got off the train and saw the injured guard. Witnesses pointed out where Garrett ran to and the officers were in pursuit.
Garrett attempted to carjack a passing vehicle near the station, but was unsuccessful.
The officers ordered Garrett to surrender, but he continued running across the street toward and occupied business. The officers shot at Garrett and wounded him in the buttocks. Police recovered the .380 pistol from Garrett’s jacket pocket.
The wounded guard was taken to a hospital and later released.
Garrett has been charged with first-degree assault, resisting arrest, and armed criminal action. Bond has been set at $250,000, cash only, but he is still in the hospital recovering from his wounds.
