McLEAN, Va. (AP) _ After Donald Trump’s promises to “drain the swamp,” federal workers say they’re anxious about their future as he makes the transition from candidate to president.

As a candidate, Trump suggested a federal hiring freeze and perhaps even eliminating an entire cabinet agency, the Department of Education.

Unions representing federal workers say employees are worried that they will be targeted but are adopting a wait-and-see approach.

Corey Stewart is a Trump supporter who chairs the board of supervisors in Prince William County, which is home to many federal employees. He says a Trump administration will not target rank-and-file federal workers but lobbyists and political insiders who populate the Beltway region.
