Arrests made in Swansea MetroLink platform shooting

BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – Two men have been charged with the attempted robbery in connection to a shooting that occurred at the Swansea MetroLink station.  The shooting left one man in critical condition after being shot in the face.

Investigators are also looking to see if the suspects were involved in a similar crime.

An attempted robbery and shooting that took place on at a different MetroLink station.

Police have two people in custody for that crime and are working to connect them to suspects charged with the shooting in Swansea.

St. Clair County Investigator Scott Toth said around 7:30 pm Monday night, a sergeant was making a routine patrol of the Swansea MetroLink station when he saw a man wearing a bandana over his face running through the parking lot.

The sergeant ran after the man who police have identified as 22-year-old Deanjelo Franklin.

During the pursuit of Deangelo another man, Shaquille Turner walked up to officers.

While all of this was happening, police got a call about a possible intoxicated man sitting on the train at the Swansea stop.

When police got on the train they found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the face.

Police found a gun on Deangelo and learned that Shaquille was with him.

The two men are now charged with armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery with a fire arm.

Police are also talking to two other individuals about a separate shooting.

"On November 22nd there was a similar incident at the Casino Queen MetroLink, there are similarities within both shootings and within the last hour sheriffs have taken two more people of interest into custody and we are trying to link these crimes together," said Toth.

Investigators said they should have more on the arrests and connection between the two incidents in the next few days.

Both victims of the two shootings are in critical condition.

Bail for Deangelo and Shaquille was set at $1 million dollars.
