FARMINGTON, Mo. (AP) – The small southeastern Missouri town of Iron Mountain Lake could soon dissolve if some residents get their way.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri reports that a petition with 131 approved signatures has been presented asking the St. Francois County Commission to dissolve the town of about 740 residents. Iron Mountain Lake is about 80 miles south of St. Louis.

Since only 119 signatures were needed, the measure will be put on the April ballot. If a majority of residents approve, the town would be disincorporated.

One issue that remains unresolved is who would take care of the roads and streets in Iron Mountain Lake. Associate Commissioner Gay Wilkinson says it wouldn’t be the county.
