Fire forces evacuation at Missouri S&T campus in Rolla

ROLLA, MO (KTVI) - A fire on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus forced some evacuations Thursday afternoon. The fire was at Emerson Electrical Engineering building. Thick black smoke could be seen billowing into the air.

Mary Helen Stoltz with Missouri S&T says that the fire is in the A/C unit on the Emerson building. Power has been shut off to the Emerson building and the surrounding buildings. Those buildings have been evacuated. Classes in those buildings have been cancelled. Classes in other buildings on campus will continue.

Several area emergency crews responded to the scene. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.

Classes have been canceled in the buildings where the power is shut off. Final exams are still being held in the buildings where the power is on.
