Hillsboro firefighter killed in Tuesday morning accident

zach-crowleyHILLSBORO, MO (KTVI) – The Hillsboro Fire Protection District lost one of their own Tuesday morning in an accident on State Highway B.  Zach Crowley was killed when his car failed to negotiate a turn while traveling southbound on the road.  Authorities say Crowley’s car left the road and he overcorrected when trying get back on the road.  His vehicle crossed the center line and was struck on the right side by a vehicle traveling northbound on State Road B.

The driver of the other vehicle was freed from the wreckage and transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Firefighter Crowley had only been with the department for one year, formerly serving in the United States Marine Corps., serving with the United States Army Reserve, and was a member of the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Crowley is survived by wife and two sons.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash.

Visitation will be held 4 pm–8 pm Friday December 16th, 2016 at Dietrich-Motherhead Funeral Home 220 Main Street, Desoto MO, 63050. A uniformed member walk-through will occur at 7:30PM.

Interment will follow at the Charter Baptist Church Cemetery, 15267 State Highway T, Festus Mo. 63028
