Alderman calls for action to stop speeding drivers in his ward

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- A police chase that started in Hillsdale Monday night (May 15) ended in a crash on Natural Bridge Road in North St. Louis. The busy stretch of road has seen several major accidents in the past few months.

Natural Bridge Rd. was shut down at Belt Avenue for more than an hour Monday night after several vehicles were involved in a wreck. St. Louis Fire Department reports there were no serious injuries.

Hillsdale police have not yet released any further information.

Alderman John Collins Muhammad represents the 21st ward where many of the accidents have occurred. Muhammad is calling for action to stop speeding drivers in his ward. Since the start of 2017, seven people have died in crashes on Natural Bridge Rd.

Last Saturday (May 13), a two-year-old was critically injured after two speeding cars crashed on Natural Bridge Rd. and the unbuckled toddler was ejected from a car.

Muhammad said he met with city leaders Monday to discuss the possibility of adding cameras along Natural Bridge Rd. They also discussed the possibility of installing more traffic signals and a roundabout. Muhammad has asked police to beef up patrols in the area.

The city streets department is conducting a traffic study to determine which stretch of Natural Bridge Rd. needs the most attention.
