Damaging winds leave thousands without power

ST. CHARLES - Big power outages Sunday morning as storms leave thousands across Missouri and the Metro East in the dark.

Thousands were left without power, with trees downed across the area after quick-moving storms ripped through the region early Sunday morning.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for most of the region Sunday morning.

The 370 Lake Side Park had some damage as a roof was ripped off a garage.  We also had a report of an overturned camper.

Most people have been running there air conditioners units nonstop, struggling to stay cool.  But with the power out, there was no relief from the heat.

Nearly   50,000 homes and businesses in the Missouri were without power at the peak of the storms.  39,000 thousand customers were without power in Illinois.

Authorities told Fox 2 that trees and power lines were down in St. Charles and in Lincoln County. There were also reports of hail in Belleville.

Ameren crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

It’s important to note excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 pm this evening.

No injuries have been reported.
