Sheriff’s deputy accused of sexually assaulting Cahokia woman

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged a sheriff’s deputy for allegedly sexually assaulting a Cahokia woman twice this year.

According to court documents, 45-year-old Robert Sneed pulled a woman over on February 16 and later followed her home after saying he needed to see her car title. While at the woman's home, Sneed told the victim he could take her to jail and have her car towed. The deputy allegedly told the woman "you know how to make this right" and touched the woman's private parts. He then requested oral sex from the victim, who complied. The deputy left the victim's home after the incident.

The victim said Sneed returned to her home in the early morning hours of August 28--while in uniform--and again sexually assaulted her. In this case, she said the deputy entered her residence and told her "you know what time it is." They went into a bedroom and the deputy pushed her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her. After the deputy left her home, the victim went to a hospital and contacted Cahokia police. The victim said she made sure there was physical evidence of the assault left on her.

The woman told police she had sex with the deputy because he was armed and she feared for her safety.

Sneed was arrested August 30. He faces two counts of sexual assault and official misconduct, and remains on paid administrative leave.
