JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri’s U.S. senators are split on President Donald Trump’s decision to impose new restrictions on federally funded family planning clinics like Planned Parenthood.

Republican Sen. Roy Blunt in a statement praised the Trump administration’s action to bar taxpayer-funded family planning clinics from referring women for abortions. Blunt says taxpayers “should not be forced to fund abortion because of misguided regulations.”

Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in a Thursday call with reporters said closing facilities that provide birth control could lead to more abortions. She said the focus should be on easing access to birth control, which she says would prevent abortions.
