Man Accused Of Attempting To Kidnap, Rape Girl In South St. Louis

A man is in custody after being accused of attempting to kidnap a girl in south St. Louis.

Police say 26-year-old Charles Smith allegedly forced a 15-year-old girl into his car Monday morning in the 7500 block of Pennsylvania. He demanded property from the girl and attempted to remove her clothing.

The victim was able to fight off Smith and escape the car.

Smith was charged with charged with first degree murder, attempted forcible rape and kidnapping. He is currently held without bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
