Prisoner Escapes from Wellston Police
Police are searching for a prisoner who escaped from the Wellston Police Department early this morning. Authorities consider him armed and dangerous and say he could have a connection to recent murders.
Wellston police are identifying the prisoner who escaped as 31 year old Billy Rabun, Junior. He’s five feet ten inches tall and weighs 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and khaki pants.
Police tell us Rabun was wanted on a warrant out of St. Louis County for domestic assault.
Investigators say he was also set to go to jail for violating his probation on a gun charge.
Wellston police pulled over Rabun around one this morning on Stephen Jones in Wellston for driving with expired plates. They then arrested him for the outstanding assault warrant and took him back to the Wellston Police Department to book him.
Police tell me they uncuffed Rabun to let him make a phone call. That’s when investigators say Rabun was somehow able to run out the front door even though three officers were apparently around him.
Wellston police say originally Rabun told them he was the brother of 34 year old Eric brown. Brown was murdered last Friday night in Pagedale while sitting in the front seat of a car.
Rabun told police he had been to Brown’s wake last night and was vowing retaliation for the killing.
But not long after that, Wellston police found out that Rabun is not related to Brown.
Now Wellston police say they are looking into whether Rabun was somehow connected to Brown’s murder and possibly one other.
If you have any information on Rabun`s whereabouts, call police.
