A new government map is giving gardeners in many parts of the country a option for trying something new.

The hardiness zones are a guide to the backyard grower.  The map zones are printed on the back of seed packs and show what and when to plant.

The government has now just updated it's zone map.  It shows a gradual northward warming trend that now might make it possible to grow new kinds of trees and perennials.

The USDA says the changes in the zones are not reliable evidence of whether there has been global warming.

The map is a record of 30 years of data to show a warming trend.
