GREENVILLE, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com)- Three inmates who escaped from the Bond County Jail in Greenville, Illinois are back in custody.

The Bond County Sheriff Jeff Brown says the trio escaped after overpowering a corrections officer when the officer unlocked a cell door to take items into the cell.

One of the inmates hit the officer then all three escaped through a back jail door that had been unlocked for maintenance.

Authorities caught the third and final escapee a little before 11am this morning.
He is 28 year old Brian Wilt.

He was caught in Carbondale by the fugitive task force from the U.S. Marshal`s office.

The other two escapees who were caught earlier are 21 year old James Hickman and 26 year old Joshua Frith.

They were taken into custody without incident about eight this morning in Sullivan County, Indiana after a traffic stop by Indiana State Police.

Investigators tell us the Hickman and Frith were in a Chevy Impala that was stolen from the home of Carlyle mayor early this morning.

The impala was one of three cars that police say the trio stole after the escape.
Two of the cars have been recovered.

Authorities say the prisoners stole one car shortly after the escape then ditched that one after they were spotted by Carlyle police.

The Carlyle Police Chief Kent Newkirk says they actually crashed that first stolen car into a parked car then ran away.

Investigators say the trio then stole two other cars including the one from the Carlyle mayor`s home.

Authorities tell us Wilt was behind bars for forgery and had been on parole for other crimes.

Hickman was in custody for criminal sexual abuse and Frith was jailed on heroin charges.
