DUI Suspected In Madison County Fatal Crash

NEAR ALHAMBRA, IL (KTVI) One person was killed in a rural Madison County, Illinois car crash early Sunday morning. The incident happened on IL Rt. 4, one half mile north of Klenke Rd, near Alhambra. A SUV was traveling north on Rt. 4 around 4:15am. The vehicle crossed the center line, striking a car heading southbound.

The car that was hit left the road and went down an embankment. The driver, 26 year old Allen Wempe of Staunton, IL, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The SUV also went down the embankment and caught fire. The driver, 41 year old Roger Stryker or Worden, IL, was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital. It is unknown if Stryker was wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Illinois State Police continue to investigate.
