(KTVI) A Wings of Hope volunteer pilot from the St. Louis area died in a plane crash Friday night Belmont County, Ohio.  Donald J. Cates lived at Scott Air Force Base.

Cates left on a commercial flight from St. Louis to Pennsylvania to pick up a donated plane. He was flying it back when it went down in Ohio.

Wings of Hope Vice President in St. Louis, Michelle Rutledge, said Cates was one of a kind. He had worked with Wings of Hope for about ten years. Cates leaves behind a wife and children.
