BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS, (KTVI) -Belleville will soon be home to a critical new training center for Ameren Illinois that could help provide many jobs.  Ameren Illinois started moving in Tuesday to the new center along Route 15.

All kinds of training including line workers will take place at the nearly 12 acre site.  The center is part of Ameren Illinois` commitment to meet the requirements of a new state law aimed at modernizing electric distribution systems.

'The thing that average folks should take away from this whole thing is it’s really focused on improving the reliability of the system and making investments in modernizing you know a very old system that’s been built over the last 100 years,' said Michael Moehn with Ameren Illinois.

Ameren will create 450 new jobs over the next ten years as part of its modernization effort.

Some of the training for those jobs will take place at the new center.

It will be up and running later this year.
