PACIFIC, MO (KTVI)– A Missouri soldier lost his life in Afghanistan days before coming home to visit his family.

Jeffrey White, 21, of Pacific died Tuesday when his humvee ran over an IED while he and fellow soldiers were on patrol. Two other soldiers with him were seriously injured.

White was a 2008 graduate from Pacific High School.

Jeff’s friends say he was a huge Blues and Cardinals fan, he even had their emblems tattooed on his body.

Last year he flew home just to attend a game of the World Series. His friends say they  are glad he got to see the Cards win that series.

His mother is in Delaware waiting to escort her son’s body home.

His hometown of Pacific is planning a patriotic display for the final homecoming.
