(KTVI)-- Illinois lawmakers fire back and defend keeping the General Assembly Scholarship Program. I've criticized this deal in several reports..It allows legislators to give out scholarships to whoever they please. Some have given scholarships to friend’s relatives and children of campaign contributors. This while many family are struggling to pay for college in Illinois.

One lawmaker from O’Fallon says it's costing State Colleges $11 Million dollars in lost revenue. And the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Governor want to end it.

Following my critical reports on this deal, The Illinois House of Representatives voted within the last couple of weeks to end it..Now the measure goes to the Senate for a vote. But some Legislators are trying to derail the march to end this deal. Tonight one of them speaks out and explains to me why he thinks Legislators should keep this perk.
