(KTVI) - The U.S. Coast Guard fires cannon at Japanese "ghost ship” in the pacific ocean.  The unmanned fishing boat was drifting towards the U.S. following last year's earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Crews started firing rounds Thursday afternoon.

The boat was 180 miles west of Sitka, Alaska.   The coast guard claims the fuel onboard will naturally dissipate by wind and weather patterns.
