(CNN) - The terror trial of a Norwegian man is underway for the confessed killer of 77 people in Norway.  The bombing and shooting massacre took place in Oslo last summer.  Anders Breivik smiled as a guard removed his handcuffs in a crowded court room.  The 33-year-old anti-Muslim militant flashed a closed-fist salute before meeting with court officials.

Breivik claims the July 22nd killings were necessary to protect Norway from being taken over by Muslims.

The big issue in the 10 week long trial is Breivik's mental health, which will decide if he's sent to prison or psychiatric care.
