CENTREVILLE, IL (KTVI)-- It was a close call for a family of six in Centreville, IL Saturday. A car racing out of control smashed through the family's front door around 5:00pm, ending up in the living room.

The driver of a silver colored sedan first struck three vehicles parked on Tudor at the Ernest Smith Jr. Public Housing Complex. Then he backed up into the first floor of Tahonna Betts townhouse in the 4700 block of Piggott.  She and her five children, including a two month old, were on the second floor.

Centreville Police are working to figure out what happened. The apartment, which is owned by the St. Clair County Housing Authority, did not catch fire. The fire department chief says smoke seen at the crash site came from spinning tires.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
