ALTON, IL (KTVI) - The families of two Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville students killed in a weekend apartment fire saw first-hand how many lives the two women touched.

A line wrapped around the Greater Alton Church and the funeral service was delayed in order to give everyone an opportunity to come inside.

Friends shared stories about the kindness and loving nature of 19-year-old Lauren Petersen and 21-year-old Lacy Siddall.

"They both were so kind," said former classmate Abbi Galeklotz.

"There are so many people here you can tell these girls were definitely loved," said Phoenix Helmkamp.

An Uncle of Lacy Siddall spoke on behalf of his family and wanted to thank everyone who has wished his family well.

'It`s just unbelievable how this community has come together for this family," said Allen Siddall.

Both families saw another outpouring of support the night before on the campus of SIUE.

A candlelight memorial service gave students an opportunity to show the victims` families just how many were touched by the lives of Lacy and Lauren.

Hundreds turned out and the brother of Lacy Siddall wanted to thank everyone for their support saying he heard over and over how wonderful his sister was.

"When you keep hearing that over and over it`s not just their perception it`s the world`s perception."
