GLEN CARBON, IL (KTVI)-- The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says investigators are working some 'very strong leads' in the hit and run death of Amber Wood, 23.
One police source tells FOX 2 News a person of interest is in custody and charges could be filed soon.
Wood was killed a few minutes before 2:00 a.m. on Friday while crossing Broadway to go to the Broadway Oyster Bar.
The driver of the car was traveling south on Broadway and did not stop to help.
Friends say Wood lit up the room when she walked in and had a passion for music.
"She was definitely the life of the party," said Noelle Wiesehan, a former classmate.
"She knew how to make everybody happy," said Stephanie Hitchcock.
A steady stream of friends filled the Sunset Hill funeral home in Glen Carbon to say farewell and show support for Wood`s family.
Monday, Wood's mother made an emotional plea for the hit-and-run driver to surrender.
"I'm here to plea to the general public to help catch the person who murdered my daughter," said Georgie Busch.
Monica Adams handles FOX 2 traffic reports and was friends with Wood. She spoke on behalf of her family during Tuesday's visitation, "All we want is for everybody to remember she had the most amazing energy and most amazing spirit."
