Washington University Student Dies From Meningitis

CLAYTON, MO (KTVI) – A Washington University student has died from complications of meningococcal disease diagnosed three weeks ago. Emily Benatar passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital Wednesday morning. Benatar was a first-year student from California attending the College of Arts & Sciences. Washington University officials say Benatar’s family was with her when she passed away.

The Washington University flag at Brookings Hall will be lowered for the remainder of the week in Benatar’s honor.

Emily Benatar’s family will be holding a memorial service May 19th, in Los Altos Hills, California. The school is planning a campus memorial service for early fall.
