KIRKWOOD, MO (KTVI)– It`s tough to say who likes Mother`s Day more, moms or folks in retail.  Americans are expected to spend billions of dollars on mothers this year.

John Kuhlmann works at Kirkwood Florist, “I love Mother`s Day as much as I love my own Mother.”  He said on a typical day the florist will make 60 deliveries.  This weekend the number of deliveries could grow to 600.

The National Retail Federation predicts Americans will spend $2.2 billion on flowers.  Kirkwood Florist called in extra staff to meet demand.  Kuhlmann said, “We have people that have other jobs elsewhere that we know that know how to put flowers together we call them in.”

At the Kirkwood gift shop ‘Down by the Station’ they are super busy.  Manager Mary Stevens said, “We have been selling all kinds of Mother`s Day presents.”  This Sunday is like a visit from Santa Claus.  Stevens said, “Mother`s Day is our second biggest sale next to Christmas, Valentine day follow that.”

Gianino`s Restaurant in Sunset Hills is ready for Sunday. They`ve extended their hours and have added a special menu.  Americans are expected to spend another $3.4 billion dollars taking mom out to eat on her big day.  Joyce Leimkuehler works at Gianino`s, “It`s better than New Year`s Eve, it`s the most important day of all the holidays I would say better than Father`s Day, Father`s Day is good but not like Mother`s Day.”
