CHICAGO (AP) -Some parts of Illinois are approaching the

three-digit temperature mark. Meteorologists say the temperature in Chicago has reached 97  degrees and it appears to have shattered temperature records.  The record for Sunday is 94 degrees. That was in 1911. Meteorologists are warning the public to take precautions. They say drink plenty of water, weather light colored and light weight clothing. The warning includes the following counties: Alexander, Hamilton, Massac, Pope and Union. The Chicago White Sox have already cancelled a fan autograph session, which was planned for Sunday as part of Kids Day activities at U.S. Cellular Field. The team says the extreme heat and sun could create uncomfortable conditions for fans waiting in lines for long periods.
