(KTVI) - Dozens of gay and lesbian couples in Illinois plan to file lawsuits Wednesday, saying it is unconstitutional for the state to deny them the right to marry.  The lawsuits challenge the state law defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

Legislation to eliminate the law's language prohibiting gay marriage is pending, but a vote is not expected before next week's end of the legislative session.  Illinois did enact same sex civil unions last year, but some say the limited rights and protections make them feel like second class citizens.
