(KTVI) - Some Illinois lawmakers want to help keep you safe when it comes to online dating services. The senate has passed a plan that would require dating websites to perform criminal background checks on members or post warnings saying the company doesn't screen members.

Dating sites that don’t comply could face fines of up to $50,000 per violation.

The bill is aimed at cutting down internet sex crimes.  The bill now goes to the governor’s desk.
