DOWNTOWN, ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) - The St. Louis Police Department is scaling back police patrols on Washington Avenue.  Police are calling their recent efforts on Washington Avenue a success.

But they say a heavy police presence is no longer needed.

Bars and restaurants along Washington Avenue have agreed to provide their own security.
Police say the biggest problems they saw on Washington Avenue were heavy traffic, quality of life complaints, like too much noise and a large number of people under 21 on Washington Avenue.
