Jake Westbrook gave the Cardinals exactly what they needed.  A night where the bullpen didn’t have to do a thing.  Westbrook pitched his first complete game in two years, as the Cardinals beat Detroit 3-1.  Manager Mike Matheny admitted Westbrook was on a short leash in the 9th inning, but he let Westbrook finish what he started. The 113th and final pitch was a groundball to second base to end the game.

Matt Holliday, Rafael Furcal, and Carlos Beltran all contributed 2 hits.  The Cardinals scored their runs on a sacrifice fly, a double play ball, and an error.  They wrap-up their series with Detroit with a Thursday afternoon game at Comerica Park.  It’s a 12:05pm start.  The Tigers will have St.Louis’ own Jacob Turner on the mound. He’s a Westminster High School grad.
