UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KTVI) - University City police have new information in the murder of 18-year-old Destinee Clemons. Clemons was shot and killed Thursday night while she was enjoying a summer night on her porch with her family. Police say several shots were fired at 7:55 p.m. that night.

During a news conference on Saturday, University City Police Chief Charles Adams said four persons of interest were inside a 2012 red, 4-door, Toyota Corolla when Clemons was shot and killed. Police found that Red Corolla at 3:00 a.m. on Friday.  Chief Adams did not want to reveal the location of where the car was found but he did say it was a rental.

Now police are trying to track down those potential suspects.

"Crimes like this are senseless," said Adams.  "But people make conscious choices to do these things."

Adams said at least one of the suspects had been identified and that forensic evidence will play a key role in this case.

He said the 4 persons of interest are believed to be from the St. Louis area and at this point his investigators have found no connection between the persons of interest and the victim.

"We won`t know why this happened until we find who we're looking for," explained Adams.

He asked that anyone with information in the case contact Crimestoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS or the University City Police department at 314-725-2211
