Sen. Durbin – Thousands Of Road Projects Hang On House Bill
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says thousands of road and bridge construction projects could be in jeopardy if the U.S. House doesn’t approve the federal transportation bill already passed by the Senate.
Durbin spoke to reporters in his Springfield home Sunday about the June 30th deadline for Congress to act.
The State Journal-Register reports that Durbin says the transportation legislation would create and protect millions of jobs nationwide, including almost 68,000 in Illinois. Durbin is also urging the House to take up the farm bill that the Senate passed last week.
That bill includes a provision Durbin co-sponsored that would cut 15 percent from the amount of premium subsidies going to farmers with adjusted gross incomes over $750,000. Durbin says it would save the government $1.1 billion over 10 years.
