LOUISVILLE, KY. (CNN) - It's too hot in Kentucky, even for the horses.  Churchill Downs canceled today's (Thursday) races because of the extreme heat.  Triple digit temperatures have hit Louisville... Making conditions dangerous for people and animals.

Race fans say they understand why the races are canceled.
"It's telling people that it's not healthy. And, you know, we need to learn in our country. Country to take health into consideration because it's just sports."
"I think it's a great idea. I think with the heat that's coming on the horses or animals, I mean they're like human beings. To ask them to run in the heat is a little absurd."
Weather-related cancellations at Churchill Downs are rare.  However, last year, one day of racing was canceled after a tornado damaged several barns.
