ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Stray Rescue crews are on a mission to keep animals safe during this extreme heatwave. They are leaving cool fresh water for dogs and cats throughout the area. The group helped  some puppies yesterday afternoon. Stray Rescue founder Randy Grim says other animals weren't so lucky.

"I've seen three dead dogs already assuming it's because of the heat. BUTT WITH Right now our shelter is at full capacity and the only way we can rescue some more is if people come and adopt or foster a dog for us." said Randy Grim.

Grim urges everyone to take the scorching heat seriously.  He says this weather leads to dehydration, overheating and death in animals very quickly.  The best thing to do is keep your pet indoors as much as possible.  If they have to be outdoors, provide shade and fresh water at all times.
