COLLINSVILLE, IL (KTVI) - An early morning fire damages a four townhomes in Collinsville, Illinois. Investigators spent Friday morning searching for a cause.
A total of four units were damaged at the Parkside Commons Townhomes not far from Highway 159 in Collinsville. One unit suffered the most severe fire damage. The other three units suffered mostly smoke damage.
Collinsville Firefighters got the call a little after 12:30am Friday. Investigators say the fire started on the deck of the corner unit. The flames apparently blew out the sliding glass door on the deck, sending the fire into the unit and up into the attic area.
Priscilla Dawson, 57, lives in the corner unit alone. She says she was sleeping when the flames broke out. Her neighbor woke her up pounding on her door.
“When I went to the door, the guy said your deck is on fire. And I came out to the side of the apartment and I saw this big flame flaming up.”
Fortunately, Dawson got out okay as did the residents in other three units. Neighbors and police pounded on the doors of the other units making sure everyone was out.
Collinsville Fire officials sounded a second alarm to bring extra crews to the scene because of the heat.
The Red Cross was also called in to help the displaced residents.
There is no word on a cause, but investigators say nothing appears suspicious. Authorities are focusing in on some sort of accidental cause.
Priscilla is just thankful she and her neighbors are okay, “It’s just very, very nice to be alive. It is just a blessing to be alive.”
