BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) - Two men are in custody after a deadly home invasion in Belleville, Illinois.

Police say 23-year-old Lenae Cole suffered multiple stab wounds in the 600 block of McKinley.

A male victim was also stabbed and is being treated at a St. Louis Hospital. Police believe the victims were targeted and it was not a random attack.

Two male suspects are being held at the Belleville Police Department. Detectives are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

Neighbors say the fatally-injured woman and her estranged husband were having domestic problems.

A woman who lives in the neighborhood said the couple had been recently married, and the wife recently kicked her husband out of the home.  According to the neighbor, the dead woman had two small toddlers who were home at the time but uninjured.

Another neighbor said he had known the female victim for 7 years.  He says his friend did not deserve to die.

"She was a good mother," said Prestin Anderson.  "She worked hard.  She had a head on her shoulders.  She was bright."

Anderson added he didn't even know his friend had gotten married.  But, he says the children's father was the one put out of the home and was stalking the woman.

"He would pop up at the crib every now and then," Anderson explained.  "He would spy on her and see what she's doing.  I didn't think he would go this far."

The investigation is on-going.
