BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – A Fairview Heights man is jailed on $1 million bond after prosecutors accused him of fatally stabbing his girlfriend.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that prosecutors in St. Clair County have charged 43-year-old Michael Armstrong with first-degree murder. Authorities say 44-year-old Marguerita Harmon of Cahokia was found dead Saturday morning on the driveway of her southwestern Illinois home.
St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone says Harmon was repeatedly stabbed in the neck.
Cahokia Police Chief James Jones says the weapon was found at the scene and Armstrong was at Harmon’s home when police arrived. Online court records don’t show whether Armstrong has an attorney, and he doesn’t have a listed home telephone number.
