Three Family Members Killed In Crash Near Waterloo

MONROE COUNTY, IL (KTVI)-Three members of a Evansville, IL family were killed in a head-on crash south of Waterloo, IL late Saturday night. The mother, father, and young daughter were in a car that collided with a van on Route 3 around 11:00pm.

According to the Illinois State Police, the car, which was traveling south, crossed into the northbound lane and struck the van head on.

The Monroe County Coroner's Office identified the victims Sunday as Steven W. Brickeen, 29, Tiffaine L. Brickeen, 29, and Mary Jane Brickeen, 4. The husband and wife were wearing seat belts.  He died at the scene. She died later at an area hospital. The daughter was also restrained in a car booster seat in the backseat.  She was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the van were injured in the crash. The driver, identified as Stephen F. Wilkes, 44, of Maryland Heights, MO, was air lifted to SLU Hospital where he is listed in serious condition. The passenger, 45 year old Timothy J. Gaeng or Bridgeton, MO, was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony's Hospital. He is also listed in serious condition. Both of their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the crash.
