Couple Buys $15,000 Painting For $10 at Goodwill

(KTVI) – When an artist bought two large paintings for $10 a piece from a Goodwill store in North Carolina, she intended to paint over them. One of the paintings turned out to be the work “Vertical Diamond” by notable 20th century artist Ilya Bolotowsky.

The works are valued between $15,000 and $20,000. Bolotowsky was an abstract painter who fled his native Russia and settled in Brooklyn in 1923. He died in 1981.

The painting will be auctioned at Sotheby’s on September 21st.
