COLLINSVILLE, IL. (KTVI) - Nine different fire departments and some 40 firefighters battled a brush fire in the Collinsville/Maryville area in metro east.  The fire wasn't huge; the extra firefighters were needed because of the heat of the day.  The triple digit temperatures make a firefighter's job even more difficult.

Collinsville Fire Captain Dale Kyrouac said, “It’s hard to fight it, it really is hard to fight.  The fatigue factor alone on the men is something else."

The fire burned about five acres.  Crews kept the flames from burning nearby homes.  It happened near a popular bike trail.

Fire officials are pleading with people to be careful because of the extremely dry conditions.
