URBANA, Ill. (AP) – A year after leaving the hall at the University of Illinois that bears his name, a bust of Abraham Lincoln has returned to its place of honor.

The Champaign News-Gazette reports the bronze Lincoln bust that was a fixture in Lincoln Hall has been away while the building was renovated. The bust is back in its familiar place at the base of a marble staircase.

University students have long rubbed the Lincoln bust’s nose for luck. The bust was created in 1923 by sculptor Hermon Atkins MacNeil

But the statue wasn’t just stashed away during Lincoln Hall’s $58 million renovation. A Chicago firm fixed up the bust’s many dings and scratches.
