ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- U. S. Senate Candidate Todd Akin continues to ignore pleas from a broad range of republicans to step aside. Now a national poll shows he has fallen behind democratic opponent Senator Claire McCaskill.

The latest Rasmussen poll taken Thursday shows McCaskill ahead by 10 percentage points, with 48 percent of the vote to 38 percent.

These numbers come after controversial comments made by Akin about rape and pregnancy during an interview Sunday on FOX 2's Jaco Report.

Claire McCaskill tweeted after seeing the results saying the Rasmussen poll made me laugh out loud, if anyone believes that, I just turned 29.  Sneaky stuff.

And Todd Akin is still bringing in campaign dollars despite losing major donors.

His campaign says they raised $100,000 in just 48 hours and hopes to raise another $25,000 by midnight.

Akin reached out to supporters  via email Thursday and thousands responded.
