BRANSON, Mo. (AP) – One of the largest hotels in Branson is preparing to reopen after extensive repairs from a rare February tornado.

No serious injuries occurred when the southwestern Missouri tourist town was hit Feb. 29 by a tornado with maximum winds of 120 to 130 mph. But the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel sustained millions of dollars in damage, including thousands of broken windows.

KOLR-TV reportsĀ  the 12-story hotel will reopen Sept. 15 with nearly all new furniture and carpets. Landscaping has also been dug up and replaced because of broken glass.

The adjacent convention center reopened in late spring. That building was not as badly damaged from the tornado.
