(KTVI) - The Missouri Department of Transportation wants to cover up part of Interstate 70 downtown. But they're not covering the driving surface so traffic should move smoothly.

This is part of the City Archivers 2015 plans to improve access to the Arch grounds. The cover, also known as 'the lid', will be a green space that will let pedestrians walk from the Old Courthouse to the Arch grounds.  Right now, those visitors have to cross over the depressed section of Interstate 70 at Memorial Drive.

According to the City Archivers 2015 website, improving access to the Arch grounds will bring enough revenue to equal that from a second Cardinals regular season or almost five NCAA men's Final Four tournaments, which we hosted earlier this year. It brought millions to the region.
