Healthy Lunches For Happy Kids

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Lunch is a very important meal for students because it gives kids the fuel they need to make it through the day. Kids can get bored with the same foods day after day.  Here are some great lunches you can make for your kids to keep them healthy and happy.

Lunch One

Whole Grain Pinwheel Turkey and Cheese

  • Crunchy Veggies and yogurt dip (Carrots, celery, red pepper, broccoli....) with ranch dip made with greek yogurt instead of sour cream
  • Small fruit—apple or kiwi (can ben cut in half and scooped out with a spoon)
  • Snack Pudding
  • Cold bottled water

Lunch Two

Peanut Butter and Jelly on whole grain bread, cut into fun shape (bread, PB and jelly set up with knife for spreading) then cut sandwich out in fun shape (using a large cookie or sandwich cutter)

  • Whole grain chips
  • Apple slices
  • A small handful of favorite treat
  • Frozen drink pouch

Lunch Three

Mighty Mini Pasta Salad (bowls of each will be on set with an empty container ready to fill).
(Tomato and carrot are chopped into small pieces, which makes it easier to eat)

  • Whole grain pasta, cooked al dente and cooled
  • Tomato
  • Carrots
  • Olives
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Matchstick deli ham, turkey and salami
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Salad dressing (Pick your favorite)
  • Frozen drink pouch
  • Apple muffin (recipe)
