SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ Military veterans who own businesses or have entrepreneurial aspirations can learn how to start or expand their ventures at an event in Bartonville.

“Mission: Veterans 2 Entrepreneurs” will advise ambitious vets on procurement opportunities with the state of Illinois along with federal and local government agencies.

It will be Sept. 28 at American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville.

Many not-for-profit organizations and government agencies that help small business owners will also attend.

They include Governors State University’s Veterans Entrepreneurial Boot Camp, the International Franchise Association and the Small Business Development Center.

The event is hosted by the Illinois Departments of Veterans’ Affairs and Central Management Services, which will help vets certify their companies as veteran-owned. That makes them eligible for special consideration on state contracts.
